Introducing: Colton Plaia, Mets 15th Round Draft Pick

colton-plaiaColton Plaia was drafted by the New York Mets a couple weeks ago with their 15th round selection in the 2013 MLB draft. He spent his college years at Loyola Marymount, and this selection was seen as a move to provide more catching depth throughout the organization.

Scouting reports don’t have a lot of great things to say about his offensive abilities, but it’s what he can do behind the plate that helped him become a professional baseball player. His ability to throw potential base runners out with his strong and accurate arm has gotten the most attention. If he works the kinks out of his swing, he has some power potential as well.

He’s beginning his professional career in short-season Class-A with the Brooklyn Cyclones.
