The South-Atlantic League named Columbia Fireflies right-handed reliever Matt Blackman the relief pitcher of the month for the Month of July. During the month of July, Blackman made eight appeances pitching 15.0 innings. Overall, Blackman was 1-1 with a 0.00 ERA, a 0.533 WHIP, and 23 strikeouts.
This month is the latest in what has been a tremendous season for Blackman after missing the entire 2016 season. Blackman had missed the entire 2016 season after suffering fracture of the olecranon in the right elbow.
The Mets 2014 29th round draft pick out of Middle Tennessee State has made 28 appearances pitching 45.0 innings. He is 4-2 with one save, a 1.80 ERA, 1.067 WHIP, and a 13.2 K/9.
