With the promotions of top prospects Amed Rosario, Dominic Smith, and Robert Gsellman, it was expected the Mets farm system would drop in the overall prospect rankings.

That became clearer when Keith Law of ESPN had only David Peterson (58), Baseball America only had Andres Gimenez (94) in their respective top 100. If that wasn’t bad enough, MLB Pipeline did not have any Mets prospects ranked among their top 100.

In his ESPN Insider organizational rankings, Keith Law dropped the Mets from the seventh best system last year to 21st this year.

Baseball America is less bullish on the Mets farm system dropping them from 15th to 27th. The Mets system has not been ranked this low by Baseball America since 2013 when they were ranked 26th.

If you want to be an optimist, you would note Jacob deGrom would be the 2014 Rookie of the Year.  Travis d’Arnaud and Jeurys Familia would also finish in the top 10 in voting.  The following year, Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz would join that trio to help pitch the Mets to the World Series.
