While Tim Tebow set Twitter abuzz with his homering in his first at-bat in Double-A, there was another big home run in that game from another player who has quickly made a name for himself:

Normally, a home run from 2016 second round draft pick Peter Alonso is hardly newsworthy.   After all, he is hitting .296/.363/.543 with 24 homers in 520 minor league plate appearances.

However, what stands out with this home run was it came off of RHP Teddy Stankiewicz.

In his professional career, Alonso has not mashed right-handed pitching quite like he has left-handed pitching. Lost in last year’s power display was Alonso hitting just .254/.317/.467 off of right-handed pitchers.

Alonso has a promising future ahead of him with many envisioning him as a future slugger with the New York Mets. For him to realize his full potential, he’s going to have to improve against right-handed pitching.

Alonso’s first inning two run homer off Stankiewicz was a good start on that front. It will be exciting to see how he continues to improve on that front during the 2018 season.
