Baseball America recently updated it’s Top 100 Prospects list and the Mets saw a trio of players move up the rankings.
Before the season began, Andres Gimenez was the lone Met on the list, coming in at No. 94. Since then, Peter Alonso and Jarred Kelenic have joined Gimenez on the list.
Shortstop Andres Gimenez, 19, jumped from No. 65 in the last update to No. 53 on the new list. He has enjoyed success since being promoted from Binghamton, hitting .304/407/.391 in Double-A 46 at bats. Gimenez was selected to the Futures Game during MLB All-Star Weekend.
First baseman Peter Alonso went from No. 76 to No. 72. The slugging right-handed hitter has been red hot in Las Vegas, hitting .328/.405/.672 over his last 14 games. Alonso’s recent surge has also come after his Futures Game success that included a mammoth home run. He has 26 homers and 95 RBI in 381 at-bats this year between Binghamton and Las Vegas.
Jarred Kelenic went from No. 78 to No. 75. Kelenic has struggled to hit for Kingsport, but has been able to get on base with ease. Kelenic’s OBP is .143 higher than his average, mainly because he’s walked 20 times in 152 plate appearances. Jarred is 5-for-15 with a home run and six runs batted in throughout his last three games.
The Mets 2018 first rounder is hitting .258/.361/.439 with 11 stolen bases overall between Kingsport and GCL to begin his career.
