As of 9:00am EST this morning, here are today’s Mets minor league starting pitchers:
Las Vegas 51s @ Tacoma Rainiers, 10:00pm EST
Giancarlo Alvarado (0-0,0.00 ERA) vs. James Paxton (4-5, 4.75 ERA)
The Mets signed Alvarado to a minor league deal earlier this week out of the Mexican League. Not surprisingly, he’s been assigned to Las Vegas to be inserted into a depleted starting rotation. In eight games (seven starts), Alvarado was 0-2 with a 4.03 ERA, 29 strikeouts, and 19 walks in 38 innings pitched. His last appearance came on June 21st, one in which he allowed 10 runs (six earned) on seven hits, three walks, and three strikeouts in 4.1 innings pitched.
Trenton Thunder @ Binghamton Mets, 7:05pm EST
Zach Nuding (2-8, 3.42 ERA) vs. Cory Mazzoni (3-2, 3.99 ERA)
Mother Nature has been awful to the B-Mets this week, so they’ll try again tonight at NYSEG Stadium. Mazzoni’s last appearance came on June 20th against Richmond, where he allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits, one walk, and eight strikeouts in the win. It was his first victory since he beat Portland on May 19th. In his last four starts (24.2 IP), Mazzoni has struck out 34 hitters, while walking six.
Palm Beach Cardinals @ St. Lucie Mets 6:30pm EST
Tyrell Jenkins (0-0, 8.10 ERA) vs. Matthew Bowman (4-1, 2.52 ERA)
Bowman finally took his first loss of the season in 13 combined starts between Savannah and St. Lucie. However, he still pitched good enough to get a win. He allowed three runs on five hits (two home runs), no walks, and seven strikeouts. The right-hander makes his sixth start at Tradition Field tonight, and all five of his decisions have come in front of the home fans. He owns a 2.25 ERA at home, while opponents are hitting just .205 off him.
Rome Braves @ Savannah Sand Gnats, 7:05pm EST
Mauricio Cabrera (1-4, 4.74 ERA) vs. Matt Koch (5-3, 4.71 ERA)
Koch suffered his first loss since May 12th in his last start against Lexington. The right-hander allowed four runs on eight hits (one home run), one walk, and four strikeouts in six innings pitched. This was somewhat of a letdown after he struck out 11 in six solid innings against Asheville on June 12th for the win. He’ll be trying to perform better in front of the home fans; he is 2-2 with a 6.20 ERA in 20.1 innings pitched at Grayson Stadium. Opponents are also hitting .319 against him in Savannah.
Brooklyn Cyclones @ Hudson Valley Renegades, 7:05pm EST
Seth Lugo (0-0, 2.25 ERA) vs. TBD
Lugo takes the hill tonight for his second start of the season. His 2013 debut with the Cyclones came on June 22nd against Aberdeen. He earned the no decision after allowing one run on three hits, one walk, and three strikeouts in four innings pitched.
Kingsport Mets @ Greeneville Astros, 7:00pm EST
TBD vs. Frederick Tiburcio (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
