The New York Mets have announced they will be hosting their final Spring Training workout at the Dome at Syracuse University on March 26. In addition to the players who will be on the Opening Day roster, Mets COO Jeff Wilpon and General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen will be in attendance.

According to Wilpon, the idea behind this event was to launch their partnership with Central New York. On the event, Wilpon said, “This extraordinary event will kick off our wonderful partnership with Onondaga County. We are thrilled the Syracuse community will have a chance to connect with our players up close and personal.” (MiLB.com).

The event will be more than just an opportunity for fans to see the Mets work out. In addition to fans being able to attend the event for free, they will have in-park player and fan interviews as well as a raffle to be able to throw out the first pitch at a Syracuse Mets game this season.

This event has many people in the area excited. Syracuse Mets General Manager Jason Smorol said, “The New York Mets have made a real commitment to our community and bringing the team to the Dome really cements that. I can’t wait for our local fans to see deGrom, Canó, Syndergaard and the rest of the Major League Club.”

After the event, the inaugural season for the Syracuse Mets will begin with a home game against the Pawtuckett Red Sox at NBT Bank Stadium.
