Syracuse Mets – Rymer Liriano

Season Stats: .228/.333/.430, 8 2B, 8 HR, 26 RBI, 5 SB, 2 CS
Week Stats: .357/.471/.929, 2 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI

August has been great for Liriano who has a hit in three of the four games this month. He has two multi-hit games, and he has an extra base hit in three of those games. His best game was August 1 with him going 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBI, and a walk. His first double set up the go-ahead run, and the second put the game away in Syracuse’s 4-2 win.

Binghamton Rumble Ponies – Andres Gimenez

Season Stats: .243/.312/.375, 16 2B, 5 3B, 6 HR, 28 RBI, 21 SB, 10 CS
Week Stats: .235/.409/.529, 2 2B, HR, RBI, SB

Gimenez has had a tough year which was partially the result of his dealing with the effects of getting hit by a pitch on his wrist. Since July 18, he has turned things around, and he has been hitting much better. Over the past 16 games, Gimenez is hitting .278/.361/.481 with three doubles, a triple, two homers, and six RBI.

One of his best games this past week came this past week. On July 31, Gimenez was 2-for-2 with a double, homer, an RBI, and a walk. Notably, that performance came against RHP Casey Mize who Baseball America ranks as the top pitching prospect in the game.

St. Lucie Mets – Wagner Lagrange

Season Stats: .305/.345/.457, 26 2B, 3 3B, 5 HR, 42 RBI, 2 SB, CS
Week Stats: .545/.560/.636, 2 2B, 4 RBI

Lagrange has a hit in five of his last six games with three different three hit games. One of the more impressive performances we have seen from any Mets minor leaguer this season was Lagrange going 6-for-8 with six runs, a double, two RBI, and a walk over a two game stretch against the Palm Beach Cardinals. Overall, since his promotion to St. Lucie, Lagrange is hitting .414/.444/.603.

Columbia Fireflies – Mark Vientos

Season Stats: .264/.310/.428, 24 2B, 3B, 11 HR, 56 RBI, SB, 4 CS
Week Stats: .444/.474/.833, 2 2B, 3B, HR, 5 RBI, CS

Vientos continues his second half surge with a very impressive week. Vientos currently has a five game hitting streak, and he has a hit in eight of his last nine games. He’s hitting .324/.361/.588 over that stretch. This month, he has two multi-hit games over his last five. Yesterday, Vientos was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, triple, and two RBI. It will be interesting to see him continue to improve as the season progresses.

Brooklyn Cyclones – Frank Valentino

Season Stats: 1-2, 3.55 ERA, 1.091 WHIP, 1.6 BB/9, 9.3 K/9
Week Stats: 2 GS, 8.2 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, BB, 11 K

The Long Island native and undrafted free agent had perhaps the best start out of any Cyclones starter this season. In his August 4 start against Williamsport, he allowed just one hit over six shutout innings while walking none and striking out seven. In the game, after he allowed a leadoff double in the second inning, he would retire 15 straight including his striking out the side in the sixth. That is as special a moment and memory for a local pitcher who grew up a Mets fan.

Kingsport Mets – Francisco Alvarez

Season Stats: .391/.472/.598, 7 2B, 4 HR, 18 RBI, CS
Week Stats: .471/.500/.588, 2 2B, 2 RBI

Alvarez has a 15 game hitting streak, and he has a multi-hit game in each of his last three games. This is his second such streak of multi-hit games. This production is even more impressive when you consider Alvarez is a 17 year old catcher who is playing in his first professional season. He is already considered a top 10 Mets prospect. He should soon be considered much more than that over the next few years.

GCL Mets – Kenedy Corona

Season Stats: .287/.388/.420, 7 2B, 3 3B, 2 HR, 16 RBI, 16 SB, 4 CS
Week Stats: .417/.417/.417

The 19 year old Corona was signed by the Mets in April this year, and he has an .808 OPS in his first professional season. In a two game stretch this past week, he was 5-for-8 in the plate.

DSL Mets – Jose Hernandez

Season Stats: .299/.414/.361, 3 2B, HR, 6 RBI, 5 SB, 3 CS
Week Stats: .429/.556/.643, HR, RBI, 3 SB

Hernandez has a hit in three of his last four games and four of his last six. His most impressive performance of the season was the August 2 game against the DSL Cardinals Red where he was 3-for-5 with four runs, a homer, RBI, and a walk. He also stole a base in that game.
