Baseball America has ranked their top 30 shortstop prospects, and the Mets have two shortstops ranked.

Ronny Mauricio, 18, is ranked as the 11th best prospect at the position. Overall, Baseball America gives Rosario a 60 grade saying of him:

Scouts who like Mauricio see at least an average hitter with plus power who has the grace and hands of a major league shortstop or possibly a third baseman.

Mauricio spent the 2019 season with Columbia where he hit .268/.307/.357 with 20 doubles, five triples, four homers, and 37 RBI.

Also ranked by Baseball America is Andres Gimenez at 22. Overall, Baseball America gives him a 50 grade saying:

Gimenez is athletic, but a lack of physicality limits his offensive upside. His defensive acumen will afford him opportunities to develop his bat in the big leagues, where outlooks range from starting middle infielder to a utility role.

Last year, Gimenez, 22, played 117 games for Binghamton where he hit .250/.309/.387 with 22 doubles, five triples, nine homers, and 37 RBI.

It should be noted Gimenez dropped 16 spots in these rankings. Entering the 2019 season, Baseball America ranked him as the sixth best shortstop prospect. His drop coincides with his dealing with hand and wrist injuries last year.

Similarly, Shervyen Newton would have an injury plagued 2019. This is one of the reasons why he dropped off these rankings after ranking 30th last year.

Conversely, Mauricio rose five spots in these rankings. This coincides with his also jumping up 32 spots to 66 in the top 100 rankings from the end of the 2018 season.
