Five Mets Prospects Featured in Baseball America’s Updated Top 100

With the MLB season half-way home and the Minor League Baseball season over half way through, Baseball America has updated their Top 100 Prospects list and it now featured five New York Mets top prospects.

Catcher Francisco Alvarez sits the highest at No. 18, infielder/outfielder Brett Baty is No. 65, right-handed pitcher Kumar Rocker sits at No. 66, shortstop Ronny Mauricio is at No. 71, and infielder/outfielder Mark Vientos rounds out the Mets prospects at No. 97.

Alvarez, the shortstop from Venezuela sits atop the list at No. 18. Alvarez was promoted to High-A Brooklyn in May where he is currently batting .224/.339/.461, with a .799 OPS. He has nine doubles, nine home runs, and 29 RBIs. The 19-year-old had a 1.213 OPS in St. Lucie before his promotion.

Next up is infielder/outfielder Brett Baty at No. 65. The left-handed hitter had a monster game on Monday with four hits and six RBIs for the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Overall, Baty has struggled in 11 games (.649 OPS) for Binghamton after posting a .911 OPS with Brooklyn to start the season.

2021 first round draft pick, Kumar Rocker finds himself at No. 66 on Baseball America’s top prospects list. Rocker, the No.10 pick out of Vanderbilt carries an an impressive arsenal of pitches. It has most recently come out, however, that there might be an issue with his pitching elbow, and as reported by the New York Post, his agreement with the Mets may be in jeopardy.

Mets shortstop prospect Ronny Mauricio sits at No. 71. Mauricio, the shortstop from the Dominican Republic is currently assigned to High-A Brooklyn, where he is batting .247/.289/.469, with a .748 OPS. He has 11 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs, and 41 RBIs in the 2021 season.

Finally, infielder/outfielder Mark Vientos rounds out the Mets prospects at No. 97 on the Top 100 prospects list. Vientos, currently assigned to Double-A Binghamton, is currently batting .266/.342/.579, with a .921 OPS. He has 13 doubles, 18 home runs, and 49 RBIs over the course of 56 games played this season. He has also walked 23 times.

The list shows that the Mets have a top heavy farm system that has the chance to excite with its upper echelon prospects.
