In an effort to bridge the gap between the gap between Triple-A and the major leagues, Minor League Baseball announced that it is adding an additional six games to the end of the 2022 Triple-A season taking the season from a 144-game season to a 150-game season. As the last step between the Minor League and Major League, the goal is to better align the seasons and get players used to having a bit of a longer schedule before they get to the Major League level.

Currently, depending on the result of the discussions between MLB and the MLBPA, the 2022 MLB season will include its originally scheduled 162 games. This will make the Triple-A season now just 12-games shorter than a Major League season.

Notably, this is not just an increase of six games to the normal schedule, but it’s an increase of 30 games over last season. The 2021 Triple-A season had been delayed and reduced to 120 games, which is the length of the High-A and Double-A seasons, due to COVID.

By adding an additional six games onto the back-end of the Triple-A schedule, their season will now better align with MLB, pushing the end of their season to September 28, 2022 opposed to the originally scheduled end date of September 21, 2022.

The 150-game schedule will be the longest season schedule for any Minor League team since 1964. International League franchises played 154 games in 1964, while the Pacific Coast League played 156 games.

The Syracuse Mets were slated to originally finish out their 2022 campaign on the road against the Worcester Red Sox. That series will now be played from September 20 through 25 and will remain a full road series for Syracuse.

Now, with the extended season, Syracuse residents now get an extra three days of baseball as the Syracuse Mets will return home to close out their season from September 26 through September 28 against the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.
