Congratulations to Victor Cruzado of the Kingsport Mets; he’s been named the Appalachian League’s player of the week for the July 1st-7th time period!
Cruzado played in five games last week for the K-Mets, and opposing pitchers had a hard time getting him out. He went 10-for-21 with two doubles, one home run, and a walk, which is good for a triple slash of .476/.500/.714. The switch hitter also drove in four runs, while scoring three times himself.
He’s currently enjoying a nine-game hitting streak, and has collected more than one hit in a game on six occasions. While he’s only accumulated 44 at-bats in 13 games played in the young APP season, Cruzado’s name makes numerous appearances on the league leader board. Here’s where we stands in various offensive categories:
- batting average: .409 (1st)
- on-base percentage: .469 (3rd)
- slugging percentage: .636 (1st)
- doubles: 4 (4th most)
That’s a pretty darn good start to the season. The 21-year-old joined the Mets organization at the age of 19, and has been playing in the Dominican Summer League the last two seasons. He compiled a .262/.377/.379 line with two homers and 35 RBIs in 256 at-bats. He’s hit two home runs and seven RBIs with Kingsport this season, hitting more long balls in less than 50 at-bats in America than he had in the two years prior in the DSL.
It will be interesting to see where Cruzado ends up when he comes back down to Earth. For now, he can enjoy his torrid hot streak by adding some hardware to it.

According to Baseball Reference page, he’s played everywhere but SS and C, but I’m guessing he profiles as an OF??
Oh, and congrats on the great week and subsequent hardware.
