With the New York Mets having a rain-out, the team has recalled right-handed pitcher Adonis Medina to serve as the 27th man. This marks the fourth time Medina has been recalled to the Mets this season.

Medina has previously made two appearances with the Mets this season. In those two scoreless appearances, he has pitched 3 2/3 innings allowing just one hit and walking none while striking out four.

With Triple-A Syracuse, Medina has made four appearances pitching nine innings. He has not factored in a decision, and he has a 2.00 ERA, 1.000 WHIP, 4.0 BB/9, and a 9.0 K/9.

In other news, the Mets have placed right fielder Starling Marte on the bereavement list. The Mets opted not to call up an outfielder to replace him on the roster in advance of the doubleheader, and instead opted to recall right-handed reliever Stephen Nogosek, who has been recalled for the second time this season.

Nogosek stepped up in his lone appearance with the Mets this season pitching three innings to help save the rest of the bullpen in an 8-3 loss to the Washington Nationals. Over those three scoreless innings, Nogosek did not allow a hit while he walked two and struck out three.

With Triple-A Syracuse, Nogosek has made eight appearances going 1-0 with one save, a 1.54 ERA, 0.600 WHIP, 1.5 BB/9, and a 10.8 K/9.

Certainly, Nick Plummer did earn the opportunity to take a spot on the roster either as the 27th man or in place of Marte. Through 20 Triple-A games, he has a 126 wRC+. He also could offer the Mets some versatility with his ability to play center or right. Certainly, this decision was not a reflection on Plummer at all.

In reality, the Mets are going to need a lot of innings from their bullpen in their doubleheader. That is partially the result of Trevor Williams getting the spot start, which in all likelihood means the Mets will go with a bullpen game. In the second game, the Mets are starting Taijuan Walker, who has averaged just under five innings per start this season.
