Before the games on Wednesday, the New York Mets announced they were optioning Khalil Lee to Triple-A Syracuse. The team also recalled Yoan López from Syracuse.

Lee, 23, had been recalled on June 8 to provide the Mets with additional outfield depth due to injuries to Starling Marte and Brandon Nimmo. With Marte and Nimmo both being able to play through their ailments, Lee was limited to just two plate appearances in lopsided games.

Ironically, Marte would leave the game arak after the Milwaukee Brewers after being hit on the wrist/forearm by Corbin Burns. Pursuant to rules, the Mets cannot recall Lee for 10 days unless a player is placed on the IL.

With Marte’s x-rays being negative, at least for the moment, it does not appear he will be placed on the IL. As a result, the Mets would need to look elsewhere for an additional outfielder.

López, 29, was recalled and joined the Mets bullpen. The last time he had been recalled, May 27, it was to serve his pending one-game suspension for hitting Kyle Schwarber with a pitch. He was optioned back to Syracuse after serving his suspension.

Overall, López has made 13 relief appearances for Syracuse. He is 1-1 with one save, a 5.40 ERA, 1.533 WHIP, 3.0 BB/9, and a 10.8 K/9.

López did not make an appearance in the game against the Brewers. However, with the Mets using four relievers, he should provide the depth contemplated when the Mets made the move to call him up to the majors.

This marks the third time López was recalled to the majors since April. Pursuant to the Collective Bargaining Agreement, with limited exclusions. a player can only be optioned to the minors five times in a season.
