The Syracuse Mets played a doubleheader against the Buffalo Bisons, and they bludgeoned them with nine homers.

The first game of the doubleheader was just an onslaught. Travis Blankenhorn hit the first of two homers in the game in the first. Things would then explode in the second inning.

Gosuke Katoh, Deven Marrero, and Travis Jankowski went back-to-back-to-back to expand Syracuse’s lead to 6-1. So far in his rehab stint, Jankowski is 3-for-5 with a home, an RBI, and a stolen base.

Three batters later, Mark Vientos hit his 15th home run of the season. He’s now tied for seventh in the International League in homers. He’s also tied with Daniel Palka for the team lead.

Buffalo narrowed the gap to 7-4 after a three run third. Syracuse responded with fourth inning homers from Blankenhorn and Khalil Lee. That would increase the lead to 9-4, which would be the final score.

That was seven homers in the first end of the doubleheader with six of the starters hitting a homer. With this being a doubleheader, this was a seven inning game which meant Syracuse averaged a homer per inning.

Surprisingly, phenom Francisco Álvarez was not one of the players who homered. In fact, he had a rate off night at the plate going 0-for-5 with a strikeout and leaving three runners on base.

As if seven homers wasn’t enough, Syracuse would add two more homers in the second half of the doubleheader.

The first was from Kramer Robertson. This was his first as a member of the Mets organization. He had been claimed off waivers from the Atlanta Braves on June 27.

The final Syracuse homer was hit by Nick Plummer in the sixth. That capped off the homers and scoring for Syracuse on the evening.

Unfortunately, the Mets needed a couple of more as the bullpen melted down. A 4-1 lead and potential sweep turned to a frustrating 6-4 loss.

After the night, Syracuse now ranks 10th in the International League with 97 homers, and they are 16th with a .395 SLG.
