MMN‘s own Michael Mayer reports Dick Scott will be named the manager for Triple-A Syracuse. Scott, 60, has been a part of the New York Mets organization for nine out of the past 12 years, and now, he will serve a role in the Mets organization for a third straight season.

Scott initially joined the Mets organization as the minor league field coordinator back in 2011. Later, he served as the team’s bench coach for the 2016 – 2017 seasons under Terry Collins. He did return to that role briefly during the 2022 season when Glenn Sherlock tested positive for COVID.

For the past two seasons, Scott has been serving as the Mets coordinator of coaching development and instruction. He was brought back to the organization by Sandy Alderson after the sale of the team to Steve Cohen.

Scott has not managed a minor league team since he was the Arizona Diamondbacks Single-A manager in the now defunct Midwest League. Prior to that, he was a minor league manager in the Oakland Athletics organization for six seasons. Scott was named the 1991 Arizona League Manager of the Year, 1993 Northwest League Manager of the Year, and the 1994 California League Manager of the Year.

This is the latest move by the Mets organization as it continues restructuring their minor league scouting and player development. On that front, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports the Mets have promoted Drew Toussaint to be their Mets’ amateur scouting director. Previously, Toussaint was the Mets assistant director of amateur and international scouting.

Toussaint has been a member of the Mets organization for the past 11 years serving in a variety of roles. Toussaint began his time with the Mets serving as the greater Los Angeles area scouting supervisor. He has largely been credited in his role with the Mets drafting Dominic Smith in the first round of 2013 Major League draft.

Toussaint is now the replacement for Marc Tramuta, who had previously been promoted to be the organization’s senior advisor to amateur and international scouting. Both Tramuta and Toussaint have been integral to a Mets organization who has built a reputation for being one the best in all of baseball when it comes to drafting players.
