Batavia 2, Brooklyn 0
The Cyclones could not complete the sweep against the Batavia Muckdogs on Monday, losing 2-0. Brooklyn is yet to complete a sweep this season and is now 0-3 in three attempts. The Cyclones best hitter as of lateJared King went 2-4 in the loss.
The Muckdogs got on the board first with help from the best hitter in the NYPL thus far this season, Avery Romero. Romero hit a double off Carlos Valdez that put runners on second and third with nobody out. Romero finished 2-4 and currently leads the NYPL in batting average. Muckdogs catcher Chad Wallach then grounded out to second base, allowing Scott Carcaise to score who led the inning off with a walk. Valdez was able to get out of the inning only allowing one run, giving the Muckdogs a 1-0 lead after two.
With no run support from his offense, Valdez kept the deficit at one until the fifth inning. Austin Dean hit an RBI single to center field that scored Carlos Lopez from second, making it 2-0 Muckdogs, Valdez could not make it out of the fifth inning, being replaced by Akeel Morris. Valdez tossed 4.2 IP, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out four. In relief Morris held down the fort for Brooklyn, pitching a season high 4.1 innings, allowing two hits and striking out six.
They Cyclones were quiet with the bats accumulating only two hits, both coming fromJared King .King continues to swing the bat extremely well extending his hitting streak to six games. Over that span King is hitting .458, going 11-24. Brooklyn had limited scoring opportunities, only getting runners into scoring position two times. Muckdogs pitchers combined to retire the last 14 Brooklyn batters.

You reckon King gets a promotion to Savannah before the season ends?
Actually no, I think they’ll let him play the full year out in Brooklyn.
The 1st year in a while I can recall the Cyclones being so bad offensively….Only players hitting are King and Mazzili….
Cecchini looked ok before the injury any word when he’ll be back???
I still dont understand why Akeel Morris is not in the starting rotation. He has pitched 3 to 4 innings in relief in every game except for the 1st game. His control seems to be in check hasnt walked many and still has a high K-rate. And has always been somewhat unhittable only flaw was his wildness(walking too many batters) and it seems to have been fixed.
Makes you wonder are they grooming him to be a closer/relief pitcher???
He was a disaster as a starter last season in Kingsport. Immediately after going to the pen he excelled.
they just removed the boot, so possibly soon.
Im aware he struggled in Kingsport last year but he pitched well there the year prior. My assumption is/was they were having him work on certain pitches last year.
He has nasty stuff his swing and miss stuff is plus and he’s hard to hit just look at his average against stat for his whole career. Even last year when he wasnt that good they still didnt hit him well just a .253Avg against….Every other year of his career he held opposing hitters well below the mendoza line.
Batters dont hit him well at all, sure I think a little bit of that has to do with his wildness at times. But that is his one flaw…cutting down his walks and throwing more strikes would go a long way.
Moving him to the pen so early is a mistake in my mind even if you envision him as a future closer or relief pitcher. He was extremely raw when drafted he needs as much reps as possible. I dont like them piggy backing him behind other pitchers for 3 to 4 innings. The Brooklyn rotation isnt stacked surely he could start over Seth Lugo or Alvarez.
Just my Opinion though 😉
