According to Daniel Wexler, first baseman Ryan Clifford and right-handed pitcher Brandon Sproat are being promoted from High-A Brooklyn to Double-A Binghamton. Clifford is MMO’s fourth-ranked prospect in the system, while Sproat is ranked 15th.

The 20-year-old Clifford, acquired in the trade for Justin Verlander, was slashing .216/.412/.304, with a .716 OPS for Brooklyn as of Sunday. The skill most on display early this year has been his keen eye at the plate, drawing 32 walks across 102 at-bats, resulting in a starling .412 on-base percentage.

Clifford has yet to reach the Double-A level in his career. Before Sunday’s game, he owned a career .831 OPS across three seasons in the minor leagues.

Sproat was drafted by the Mets in the second round of the 2023 MLB Amateur Draft with the 56th-overall pick. In his first official professional season with High-A Brooklyn, the 23-year-old owned a 1.07 ERA across 25 1/3 innings. He has struck out 33 batters, and opposing hitters have only a .141 average against him. He has, however, struggled with walks, posting 16.

The former Florida Gator has bursted onto the scene this year—another prospect enduring a fast rise in the Mets’ system and organizational prospect ranking lists.

Each is joining an 18-13 Binghamton team whose roster features other top prospects, including Alex Ramírez, Kevin Parada, and Tyler Stuart.

The Mets have also released right-handed pitchers David Griffin and Diosmerky Taveras.
