Luisangel Acuña had a big night in the Venezuelan Winter League, going 3-for-5 at the plate with a double while scoring two runs and stealing three bases. Acuña has hit the ground running in the VWL and hopefully he can carry this success over into the 2025 MLB season where he will be looking to make the Mets opening day roster.
In what would be their final Arizona Fall League game, Drew Gilbert and Jacob Reimer both played and had solid performances. Drew Gilbert, playing center field went 0-for-2 with two walks and Jacob Reimer, while playing left field went 1-for-5 with a double. Gilbert has shown much more patience at the plate in the AFL than he did in Triple-A and despite the low batting average he is showing a noticeable change in his hit profile possibly tapping into more power. His final slash line was .208/.380/.403 for a .783 OPS with two doubles, four home runs and nine RBI. He walked 17 times and struck out 14, while stealing 2 bases.
Jacob Reimer getting another start in left field is a sign that the Mets organization may be wanting to give him more of a utility profile, but Reimer has also shown a great eye at the plate despite only being 20 years old, and nearly missing the entire 2024 season. Overall Reimer slashed .208/.371/.359 for a .730 OPS while hitting one triple, two home runs an 13 RBI. He walked 15 times and struck out 13 while stealing one base.
