The New York Mets and right-handed pitcher Kevin Herget have come to terms on a minor league contract, per Will Sammon The Athletic. The deal includes an invite to major league spring training down in Port St. Lucie.

Herget split the 2025 season between NL East rivals in the Mets and Atlanta Braves after going through a wave of being claimed off waivers.

The Mets first claimed Herget off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers at the end of the 2024 season. He was in spring training camp with the Mets last spring and opened the season in Triple-A Syracuse before being designated for assignment by the Mets in May and claimed off waivers by Atlanta later that month.

He spent two months with the Braves organization before electing free agency. The Mets went back after Herget in July, signing him as a free agent to a minor league contract. The Mets later that month selected his contract and added him to the 40-man roster.

He spent the majority of the 2025 season in Triple-A with the Gwinnett Stripers and the Syracuse Mets. He was 3-0 with a 3.09 ERA in 2025, pitching in 36 games (three starts) in Triple-A. Over the course of 46 2/3 innings, he gave up 16 earned runs on 44 hits and struck out 49. His WHIP was 1.18 in Triple-A.

The 34-year-old appeared in six games for New York at the major league level with an ERA of 3.00. He threw 12 innings, giving up just four earned runs on 11 hits and struck out six. His WHIP with the Mets was 1.17. Herget pitched one scoreless inning in his lone big league appearance with the Braves.

For his career, Herget has a 4.20 ERA in 55 2/3 relief innings at the major league level.

Pitchers and catchers will report to Port St. Lucie between February 9-11, with full squads beginning to arrive by February 16. The Mets open their spring slate at home at Clover Park. Their first spring training game of 2026 is on Feb. 21 at 1:10 pm ET against the Miami Marlins.
