Pitching prospect Calvin Ziegler, a 21-year-old who struck out 13 in 6 hitless innings at Single-A Brooklyn to start the season, needs Tommy John surgery, sources told Mike Mayer of MetsMerized Online. Daniel Wexler was the first to report Ziegler was missing the 2024 season.

The right-hander missed nearly all of last season due to elbow and quadriceps injuries. The Canadian was selected in the second round of the 2021 draft. He was ranked No. 22 on the MMO list of Mets prospects.

In 2022, his first professional season, he fanned 70 in 46 2/3 innings over 16 starts for the St. Lucie Mets, pitching to a 4.44 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. Ziegler was drafted in 2021 with the 46th overall pick.
