The Salt River Rafters lost their second straight game on Wednesday and Brett Baty had a rare day without a hit. Earlier in the day, Baty was named the AFL Player of the Week after posting a 1.278 OPS during the first week of the season.

The game was scoreless going into the sixth inning when the Surprise Saguaros scored one run off Mets prospect Connor Grey. Fellow Mets pitching prospect Garrison Bryant got the start for the River Rafters and pitched three scoreless innings.

Baty walked and scored in the eighth inning to close the River Rafters deficit to 3-2. Mets prospect Brian Metoyer gave up a run in the top of the ninth as the River Rafters lost 4-2.

  • RHP Garrison Bryant (1.80 ERA) 3 IP, H, 0 R, BB, 3 K
  • RHP Connor Grey (1.50 ERA) 3 IP, 3 H, ER, 2 BB, 3 K
  • RHP Brian Metoyer (9.00 ERA) 1 IP, H, ER, 2 BB, 2 K

Bryant, topping out at 90 mph with his fastball, has now allowed only one run in five innings during the AFL season. The right-hander threw 34 pitches in the outing with 11 of them being curveballs.

The right-handed Grey topped out at 93 mph in his outing. He had the most whiffs in the game of any pitcher with eight, six of them came on his curveball.

Metoyer showed off his nasty high spin curve yet again, throwing one at 3278 rpms and averaging 3176 rpms on the pitch. The average rpms would rank third among major league pitchers behind only Ryan Pressly (3224) and Mets curveball extraordinaire Seth Lugo (3261). Though he struggled with the control of his curve and cutter in the outing.

Carlos Cortes (1.009) got the night off and all three of the Mets offensive prospects reached base on Wednesday.
