The New York Mets have reassigned C Francisco Alvarez, OF Carlos Cortes, RHP Yennsy Diaz, C Nick Meyer, RHP Jose Rodriguez, LHP Antonio Santos, and LHP Josh Walker to minor league camp. As a result, the Mets Major League Spring Training roster now stands at 40.
Obviously, the big name here is Alvarez. In his five Spring Training games, he was 1-for-4 with a homer, RBI, walk, and two strikeouts. By now, we have seen and heard everyone talk about the big home run Alvarez hit:

Santos and Walker were on the periphery of the left-handed reliever competition this Spring. However, once Chasen Shreve was signed their chances were all but over.
Walker made two appearances pitching 4.0 innings. He allowed one earned on four hits and two walks while striking out four. Santos has not made an appearance this Spring.
Cortes played in eight games this Spring recording two hits in 10 at-bats. One of the two hits was a double. He also walked once and struck out three times. Meyer appeared in four games going 1-for-4 with a run and three strikeouts.
Notably, of all of these moves, Diaz was the only player on the 40 man roster. He did not appear in a game this Spring. Rodriguez would pitching one scoreless inning.
In other news, MMN‘s Michael Mayer reports St. Lucie Mets games will now be televised on MiLB TV. With the St. Lucie games being carried, all four of the Mets full season minor league affiliates will now be televised on the network. Mayer also reported some highlights of the Mets simulation game:
Mets minor league notes from today:
– Warren Saunders hit a very very long home run
-Mike Vasil’s slider was plus, fastball in mid-90s
– Shervyn Newton had a big day at the plate including two extra base hits
– Junior Santos looked good in big league sim game— Michael Mayer (@mikemayer22) March 29, 2022
Notably, Shervyen Newton was once a very well regarded Mets prospect who many believed would be drafted in the Rule 5 draft years ago. Unfortunately, Newton has dealt with injuries the past few seasons. He is apparently healthy now, and hopefully, he is poised to have a big comeback season.
