MMN Recap: Mark Vientos Hits First Triple-A Homer

AAA: Syracuse Mets (46-68) 7, 
Worcester Red Sox (65-51) 1

There was no stopping the Syracuse offense as the Mets belted 13 hits, including five home runs in a 7-1 rout of Worcester on Friday night. Mark Vientos led the way at the plate for Syracuse with three hits with one coming in the seventh for a solo homer.

Drew Jackson capped off his night with two extra-base hits, including a solo shot in the fifth and an RBI double in the sixth. Khalil Lee, Patrick Mazeika and Cheslor Cuthbert also ended their nights with home runs.

Starter Josh Walker had a stellar night on the mound as he tossed seven strikeouts and allowed only one run on two hits in five innings of work. The Syracuse bullpen took care of the job after five as it allowed just one hit for the rest of the game.

AA: Reading Fightin Phils (46-65) 4, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (47-58) 1

Despite putting up nine hits on the night, Binghamton only mustered up one run with a Luis Carpio RBI double in a 4-1 loss to Reading. Carpio, Jake Mangum and Jose Mena each finished their nights with two hits. Carlos Rincon also got on base twice with two walks.

No. 2 prospect Ronny Mauricio garnered one hit on the night with a single in the third.

Starter Alec Kisena had a tough night on the mound as he gave up three runs on five hits, earning his second loss in Double-A. Relievers Willy Taveras and Joe Zanghi both had nice outings as they combined to give up just three hits and no runs in four innings.

Three different Cyclones had multi-hit outings in a 7-4 win over Jersey Shore on Friday night. Brooklyn wasted no time getting on the board with a three-run first. Jose Peroza kicked off the scoring with an RBI double and eventually came around to score thanks to a sac fly and a Zach Ashford RBI single.

Ashford smacked in another RBI in the fifth as he reached on fielder’s choice to start another three-run inning for Brooklyn.

Although he gave up three runs, starter Jose Chacin still earned the win as he struck out seven batters in six innings. Reliever Hunter Parsons earned the save as he allowed no runs or hits and struck out two batters in the game’s final inning.

A: St. Lucie Mets (58-55) 2, Jupiter Hammerheads (61-54) 0 (Suspended)

Friday’s game between St. Lucie and Jupiter was suspended after one inning due to rain. The Mets jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to a Jeremy Vasquez RBI double and a Brandon McIlwain RBI triple.
