The latest mock draft from Jim Callis and MLB Pipeline ties the Mets to a pair of top names in this year’s class, one being a high riser. Callis continues the slew of mock drafts that have tied the Mets to Daniel Susac in this year’s draft, where he mocks the Arizona catcher to the Mets at number 11.

This is the third time that MLB.com has mocked Susac to the Mets at number 11. In his second year at Arizona, Susac posted a line of .366/.430/.582 with 12 homers. He has played his entire collegiate career at catcher.

In his write-up for their first selection, Callis states that “If the Royals aren’t the first team to take a pitcher, then it could be the Mets with Porter or high school left-handers Brandon Barriera and Robby Snelling. They also could use both their first-rounders on college bats, picking from a group that includes Cross, Susac, Texas Tech second baseman Jace Jung, and Neto.”

At number 14, he sends Campbell shortstop Zach Neto to the Mets. Neto, a 21-year-old righty, hit .407/.514/.769 with 15 homers and 19 stolen bases in his junior year in the Big South Conference. Neto was also recently mocked to the Mets in Prospects Live’s most recent mock draft.

Callis also notes that “New York also could opt for one of the prep pitchers mentioned at No. 11 and might be the earliest destination for Georgia high school right-hander Dylan Lesko, who was on course to be the first arm taken until he required Tommy John surgery.”

The MLB Amateur Draft is just a few weeks away on July 17, and the Mets have a great shot to infuse some great talent into their system with five of the top 90 picks. Mets Minors and Metsmerized will keep you up to date with the latest news and rumors.
