- Jonathan Johnson 2B 2 for 4 .239/.367/.318

- David Thompson 3B 1 for 4, 2B .262/.322/.382
- Luis Guillorme SS 2 for 4, K .259/.329/.312
Seems I jinxed Nido by writing about him, since he has been 5 for 25 since I wrote about him on 8/17. Sorry bud! Looks like he still leads the Florida State League in Batting Average.
- Andrew Barbosa LHP 7 IP, 0 H, BB, 11 K 0.40 ERA
- Alex Palsha RHP 2 IP, 2 H, BB, K 3.20 ERA
Indy League pickup Barbosa needs to go back to AAA. Palsha collects his fourth save in four opportunities. The Mets lost the combined no-hitter with one out in the 8th inning.
Auburn Doubledays 4 (Washington), Brooklyn Cyclones 3 (34-35) Box Score
- Michael Paez 2B 2 for 4, HR, BB .160/.
- Desmond Lindsay CF 1 for 4, BB, K .299/.435/.483
- Blake Tiberi 3B 1 for 3, HR, BB .231/.312/.306
Cyclones faced off against Nats first rounder Dane Dunning, who only allowed a run in five innings. Paez hit a homer against him to get the Cyclones on the board, and Lindsay had a single and a walk against him. Both of Tiberi’s homers have come in August.
- Raul Jacobson RHP 6 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, K 2.62 ERA
- Gary Cornish RHP 3 IP, H, 6 K 2.45 ERA
Cornish has been very good this year in the New York-Penn League and could be fast-tracked next year.
Kingsport Mets 4 (24-41), Danville Braves 0 Box Score
- Ricardo Cespedes CF 4 for 4, 3B, CS, .324
- Jeremy Wolf 1B 2 for 4, RBI, K .296
- Walter Rasquin 2B 1 for 3, K .293
Cespedes has been on fire in August, hitting seven extra base hits (3 2B, 3 3B, 1 HR) after hitting two entering into the month. He had been not doing well against left handers, hitting .268/.297/.296 leading into the night, but then hit a triple and a single off Collective Bargaining Pick, Joey Wentz.
- Jordan Humphreys RHP 7 IP, 4 H, 7 K 3.76 ERA
- Blake Taylor LHP 2 IP, H, 4 K 4.15 ERA
You will likely see one of these two pitchers get a crack in the Columbia rotation next year.
GCL Cardinals 8, GCL Mets 3 Box Score – Makeup for 8/24 Game
- Anthony Dirocie RF 1 for 3, BB, 2 K .253/.365/.418
- Rigoberto Terrazas 3B 1 for 3, 2B .219/.281/.253
- Oliver Pascual SS 2 for 3 .238/.315/.292
High-ceiling 19 year old Kenneth Bautista has 37 strikeouts in 23 games this year. 19 year old Dirocie has been an on-base machine in the leadoff position.
- Carlos Hernandez RHP 4 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 5 K 5.07 ERA
- Matt Cleveland RHP IP, 2 H, 2 ER 12.27 ERA
13th Rounder Cleveland has only one clean inning this season. He is surely being put into the rotation for Kingsport next year, watch out all.
GCL Mets 2 (25-27), GCL Cardinals 1 Box Score
- Angel Manzanarez 2B 2 for 4, K .244/.303/.280
- Carlos Sanchez DH 3 for 4, 2B, RBI .323/.376/.434
- Kenny Hernandez 3B 1 for 3 .218/.279/.309
Hernandez has had an awful year, mired by injury, but he is still 18, and has time to live up to that million bucks he received in 2014. 20 year old C/1B Sanchez has been hands down the best hitter for the Gulf Coast League this year.
- Jose Geraldo RHP 7 IP, 7 H, ER, BB, 6 K 1.31 ERA
In case you forgot, in minor league double headers there are only 7 innings in each game, so Geraldo threw a complete game.
Thank you for mentioning the St. Lucie game was started in June because when I saw the box score I thought Buccerra was coming back for the stretch run and Stuart may have been demoted to help them out.
Well Nimmo with the chance to lead the PCL in hitting (who saw that coming) and Cecchini is just raking. Two young players the Mets fans love to hate and who arguably had two of the best years in the minors for the Mets. It will be an interesting offseason. Cespedes has to be re-signed. The Mets have to get this done. If the Mets are able to re-sign Walker (big if) than they have Reyes, Cabrera, Flores and Wright all at spots for the infield with Cecchini and Rosario coming quick. Wright should be moved to first base.
“You will likely see one of these two pitchers get a crack in the Columbia rotation next year.”
I want to see both of them get a crack at the Columbia rotation next year. If there’s not enough room, just send Szapucki to PSL where he belongs. Also, if the Mets decide to sign Cespedes to a 5 year deal, when he leaves, he could be making room for another Cespedes to take his place (if the Conforto-Lindsay-Becerra OF doesn’t work out).
Haha I was confused as to why Beccera was in the lineup. I didnt realize it was a makeup.
I was confused until I saw Becerra.
