The Mets selected outfielder/corner infielder Kenneth Bautista in the 23rd round of the 2015 draft out of the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and High School. The right-handed hitter was 17- years old (8/7/1997) when he was drafted, he is currently listed at 6’3 and 210 pounds. He was named a 2015 Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American and an All-Region First Teamer for Canada/Puerto Rico.

He is a strong kid with a good outfield arm that would be a good fit for right field but some question is athletic ability to play the outfield and think he could be better served at a corner infield position. Has good power potential that comes from a strong frame and has shown ability to use the whole field. Here is an excerpt from his Perfect Game profile:

“Extra large athletic build, outstanding strength potential. Right handed hitter, long loose swing with a good hand path to contact, tries to stay short to contact, loose and extended out front, double toe tap trigger and still getting his timing down, tends to lead out front early and reach, big power potential if it all comes together.”

Kenneth started his pro debut off with a hot start, hitting .364/.417/.515 in his first 10 games for the GCL Mets of the rookie level Gulf Coast League. The rest of the season was a severe struggle though as he went 8 for 74 in the final 23 games with 30 strikeouts and only one extra base hit. Overall he ended his first pro season batting .187/.241/.252 with two doubles, triple, homerun, three stolen bases, and 36 strikeouts compared to six walks in 33 games.

Here is a five minute video for your viewing pleasure showing Bautista fielding and hitting.
