While the lockout continues to loom large, not all Mets decisions are stuck in neutral. The Syracuse Mets announced the new look of their 2022 coaching staff, including new manager Kevin Boles.

Boles may be new to Syracuse, but he’s no stranger to managing Mets affiliates on I-81 as he was the manager in Double-A Binghamton for the 2019 season. The Rumble Ponies were 67-73 under Boles’ leadership that year, but Boles brings more to the table than familiarity and experience. In 2014, with an impressive lineup of future MLB assets,  Boles lead the Pawtucket Red Sox to their fourth Governors Cup in team history.  A few seasons later, Baseball America touted Boles as the Best Managerial Prospect in the International League

It’s not all new for Syracuse in the coaching department, Joel Chimelis will remain at the Triple-A level for season number five as the team’s hitting coach, his third in Syracuse . Chimelis ability to fine tune the offensive approach of Khalil Lee will be a point of focus for fans all year, as Lee could well be in Queens at some point in 2022. Lee and newly added Nick Plummer have the defensive tools for any level, but Chimelis will be tasked with perfecting their offense.

Steve Schrenk returns for his second year as the pitching coach in Syracuse. Prior to, Schrenk spent 16 seasons at varying levels of the Phillies system as a pitching coach. While the highest touted arms of the Mets farm system are below Syracuse, Schrenk will likely be working with Jose Butto and Adam Oller as they prepare to debut at the games highest level.

Jay Pecci jumps multiple levels as he arrives in Syracuse as the bench coach. Pecci held the same role in 2021 at St. Lucie and in 2019 at the Gulf Coast league.  Chris Jacobs will not only embark on his first year in Syracuse, but his first year within the Mets organization. Jacobs previously was the head of development in an independent league.
