The Mets have traded AAA catcher Nevin Ashley for cash considerations according to Robert Murray of Knuckleball.

The 32 year old Ashley served as the 51s third catcher recently. In 63 games in AAA, Ashley was hitting .240/.350/.389 with 10 doubles, five homers, and 28 RBI.

Since being drafted in the sixth round by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2006, Ashley finely got called up to the majors last year playing 12 games for the Milwaukee Brewers. After the season, he was a free agent. The Mets signed him and assigned him to AAA.

With the Rangers acquiring Ashley today, he will be available for the postseason. Currently, the Rangers have an 8.5 game lead over the Houston Astros in the AL West.
