Major League Baseball announced that Mets third base prospect Eudor Garcia has been suspended 80 games without pay. He tested positive for  Bumetanide and Furosemide, both of which can be used to mask drugs or steriods by helping to dilute the content of the user’s urine.

Garcia was the Mets fourth round pick in 2014 out of El Paso Community College and is currently ranked as the #20 prospect in the organization according to MLB Pipeline. The 21-year old left-handed hitter had a great 2015 season for the Class A Savannah Sand Gnats, hitting .296/.340/.442 with nine homeruns and 59 RBI in 105 games.

He made his pro debut in 2014 with the Kingsport Mets and hit only .262/.327/.347 in 55 games. I am currently working on my top prospect list and had him somewhere in the teens before the suspension news.

Earlier this offseason pitchers Jose Martinez (60 games) and Connor Buchmann (50) were each suspended for violating MLB drug testing. Martinez tested positive for Stanzolol and Buchmann for amphetamines.
