In a flurry of roster moves today the Binghamton Mets announced that speedy outfielder Champ Stuart has been promoted to their roster from the St. Lucie Mets. The 23-year old was hitting .265/.347/.407 with career highs in doubles (9), triples (6), and home runs with six already this year. He has also stolen 25 bases and been caught only three times.

The big question for Champ coming into the year was if he will ever cut down on the strikeouts enough to be a leadoff hitter or even hit in the upper minors. This year his strikeout rate is down to 30.1 % from last year’s 36.9 %. But he is also walking less and he was repeating the Florida State League. The power numbers being up are certainly intriguing although Champ is a guy you would like to see more focused on getting on base.

Stuart was the Mets 6th round pick of the 2013 draft out of Brevard College.

The B-Mets made three other roster moves including outfielder Jayce Boyd being placed on the disabled list retroactive to July 5th. Reliever Beck Wheeler was sent back to the Las Vegas 51s and catcher Raywilly Gomez was activated off the disabled list.
