Before we get started, I’d like to proudly announce that Robert Whalen, our 2012 12th round pick, who was traded with John Gant in the Uribe/Johnson deal was called up by the Braves to start for them tonight.
RHP Rob Whalen will start tomorrow for the #Braves

He was my first ever interview with the MMO/MMN blogs, and I’m very proud of my old friend. Congratulations, Rob!
Las Vegas 51s 3 (55-55), El Paso Chihuahuas (San Diego, 62-49) 2 Box Score
- Gavin Cecchini SS 1 for 4 .309
- T.J. Rivera 3B 2 for 3, HR, 3 RBI .340
Cecchini has been 1 for 8 since switching to the leadoff position after Dilson Herrera (sad face) was traded. Rivera’s homer won the game, and he would really like a callup, Mets.
- Gabriel Ynoa RHP 7 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K 4.42 ERA
- Paul Sewald RHP 2 IP 3 K 3.63 ERA
Ynoa has been very inconsistent this year for Las Vegas, but has also pitched six or more innings in 16 of 22 starts. Sewald looks to be getting used to Vegas, after struggling in June, and has struck out 66 in 52 innings.
Harrisburg Senators 4, Binghamton Mets 2 Box Score
- Phillip Evans 2B 1 for 3
- Dominic Smith 1B 1 for 3, RBI
- Victor Cruzado RF 2 for 3
Evans has hit very well for Binghamton this year.
- Tyler Pill RHP 7 IP, 9 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K 4.14 ERA
Pill pitched a minor league doubleheader complete game, but still took the loss.
Binghamton Mets 3 (50-58), Harrisburg 2 (Washington, 59-50) Box Score
- Phillip Evans SS 2 for 5, RBI, K .301
- Dominic Smith 1B 1 for 4, 2B, BB, 2 K .282
- Jayce Boyd LF 2 f0r 3, RBI, 2 BB, SB, K .280
Boyd has been on fire after hitting .371 in August and knocked in the walkoff run in the bottom of the 10th of what should have been a 7-inning game. Smith smacked his 19th double of the year. Amed Rosario is due back off the DL today.
- Logan Taylor RHP 2.2 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 4 K 4.04 ERA
- David Roseboom LHP IP 2.06
- Paul Paez LHP IP, 2 K
Logan Taylor started the game in an effort to pull a bullpen-only game after Tyler Pill pitched the complete first game. He’s been missing bats, but also slightly hittable in Double-A after transitioning to relief. Roseboom was a shutdown pitcher in July, allowing one run in 14.1 IP (.63 ERA). This was Paez’s first game, and he earned the win after pitching a scoreless top of the 10th.
Augusta Greenjackets 6 , Columbia Fireflies 0 Box Score
- Milton Ramos 1 for 2 .228/.297/.281
Ramos recorded the only hit in the first tilt of the Doubleheader.
- Witt Haggard RHP 2.1 IP, H, BB, 3 K 2.38 ERA
Starter Raul Jacobson had a miserable game, giving up all six runs in 3.2 innings.
Columbia 5 (49-58), Augusta 3 (San Francisco, 59-48) Box Score
- Enmanuel Zabala CF 3 for 4 .313/.347/.383
- Eudor Garcia 3B 1 for 3, RBI, K .228
- Dash Winningham 1B 1 for 3, 2B, BB, K .241
Zabala continues his hot hitting, and couples it with plus defense. He hit .315/.337/.382 in June at Full-Season A.
- Chase Ingram RHP 6 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 8 K 4.88 ERA
Ingram employs that pretty curve to strike em’ all out.
Aberdeen Ironbirds 2 (Baltimore, 18-25), Brooklyn Cyclones 0 (22-22) Box Score
- Desmond Lindsay CF 1 for 4, 2B .304/.429/.522
Lindsay recorded the only hit, and would have had an RBI, had Michael Paez not been thrown out at the plate.
- Gabriel Llanes RHP 8 IP, 5 H, ER, 2 K 3.18 ERA
Brooklyn starters have tossed 15 innings in their last two games.
GCL Mets 4 (14-17), GCL Marlins 2 (16-18) Box Score
- Carlos Sanchez 1B 3 for 4, HR .355/.395/.461
- Juan Uriarte C 2 for 4 .253
After starting out .067 in June, the 18-year-old Uriarte sped up to .286 in July.
- Luis Silva RHP 4 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 2 K 2.03 ERA
Silva has done well after struggling in the DSL earlier this year.
DSL Mets1 6 (29-21), DSL Rangers1 5 (35-14) Box Score
- Hansel Moreno 3B 2 for 4, HR, K, E .325/.376/.479
- Gregory Guerrero SS 2 for 4, 2B, K .259/.350/.288
- Andres Gimenez 2B 2 for 4, HR, 2 RBI, K .356/.468/552
- Luis Lebron C 2 for 4, 2 HR, E .252/.313/.444
Guerrero hit his first double since July 2nd. That was Moreno’s third home run. Gimenez continues to celebrate his trade value skyrocketing with his second homer in four games. Someone get that kid a visa and an invite to the Gulf Coast League.
- Nelmerson Angela LHP 4 IP, BB, K 2.15 ERA
We continue our coverage of the Dutch-DSL connection with some highlighting of the lefty pitcher not allowing a hit for four innings.
DSL Ranger2 2 (27-23) DSL Mets2 1 (16-34) Box Score
- Shervyen Newton SS 1 for 4, K, E .184/.354/.263
- Wilmer Reyes 3B 2 for 4, HR .267/.322/.348
- Luis Santana 2B 2 for 4, 3B .333/.397/.456
That was Reyes’s first career home run. I like to believe that he’s Wilmer Flores and Jose Reyes‘ love child.
Some Other Notes:
- Left-handed starter who was acquired in the Ike Davis trade, Blake Taylor has joined the Rookie-League Kingsport Mets after rehabbing from Tommy John Surgery.
- There were other moves made yesterday besides Paez and Taylor’s assignments, check it out.

Gimenez to Kingsport, Guerrero to GCL next spring?
I’d have to think so. Unless they both start in GCL and split time at the position like they’re doing now, with one or both of them getting moved up mid-season.
I figure it’s June before it actually starts, so they should be able to separate them with extended ST.
