The Scottsdale Scorpions were trounced by the Mesa Solar Sox by the score of 12-2. Behind that beat down were a few solid performances by some of the Mets prospects:
Mets Offensive Prospects
- Gavin Cecchini (SS) 1-3, R, RBI, 2B, SF
- Tim Tebow (LF) 0-3, 2 K
Cecchini was back at shortstop after a game at second over the weekend. In the field, he had an errorless game, which is notable considering his defensive struggles. He’s hitting .333 with with four RBI and three walks in four games.
At the plate, he knocked in the Scorpions first run with a first inning sacrifice fly. In the fourth, he got the rally started with a lead off double.
Tebow has yet to get a hit in 14 Arizona Fall League at-bats.
Mets Pitching Prospects
- Corey Oswalt 3.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
- Corey Taylor 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, K
Oswalt had s much better start in his second Arizona Fall League start, but it still wasn’t a great start. The Solar Sox jumped all over him in the first before Oswalt settled down. After the tough first, Oswalt allowed just one hit before leaving the game after throwing 65 pitches.
Taylor was only one of two Scorpions’ pitchers not to allow a base runner on the night. He has now allowed just one run in 4.2 innings with zero walks issued and three strikeouts.

I am happy to see that they aren’t completely moving Cecchini off of SS. I know I’m one of the few who believe he can play there long term, so, even though he likely won’t have a chance there once Rosario comes up, I still like seeing him getting another chance. Of course, I think he had to start to learn 2nd, because he’ll have to shift playing with Rosario in Vegas.
As for Tebow, I predicted a >40% K%, but I at least thought he would hit one into the outfield every once in a while. Probably not the best idea to send him to the AFL. As much as I disliked the way the article was done, Keith Law was probably mostly right.
