Another week into the offseason, but still plenty of things to talk about here at MMN. Baseball America continued to rank their top prospects in each minor league, ranking their top 20 players in the Sally League. While the Sand Gnats took home their first championship in 17 years, only Steven Matz made the list, coming in at #20.

John Sickels at SB Nation’s Minor League Ball released his top 75 prospects in all of minor league baseball this week. Travis d’Arnaud and Rafael Montero made the list, but Noah Syndergaard earned the top ranking for the Mets, ranking as Sickels’ 11th best prospect.

The regular season came to a close eight days ago for the Mets. Once the dust settled, New York was confirmed to have the 10th overall pick in next June’s MLB draft. If Alderson and company decide to pursue and sign a player who received a qualifying offer from their former team, the Mets won’t have to surrender their first round pick.

JJ Cooper of Baseball America held a prospect chat for the South Atlantic League. He got questions about Dilson Herrera, Brandon Nimmo, Garbiel Ynoa, and Kevin Plawecki. Satish R. has all of Cooper’s Mets-related answers right here.

Baseball America also released their top 20 prospects in the New York Penn League this week. Gavin Cecchini, Robert Gsellman, and Miller Diaz made that list.

While it doesn’t seem like New York will be a major player for Jose Abreu, the organization had three scouts in attendance for his showcase down in Santo Domingo.

While there could be the possibility for the Mets to move their Triple-A affiliate to Syracuse after the 2014 season, the biggest news of the week came from Matt Harvey. Originally planning to rehab his partially torn UCL instead of getting surgery, this year’s All-Star game stater decided to go under the knife for Tommy John surgery. He’ll likely miss the entire 2014 season.
