Syndergaard - HOWARD SIMMONS NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

The Noah Syndergaard era is about to begin, and it may only be a spring training game, but all eyes will be on the 6-foot-6 right-hander as he takes the mound for the first time against the Atlanta Braves today at 1:05 pm.

All winter long and coming into the spring, it’s been all about Syndergaard and now he will get a chance to showcase his electrifying 96-98 mph fastball and a curve ball that Terry Collins has already called the “hook from hell.”

Syndergaard threw two innings, with five strikeouts in Thursday’s intrasquad game and now he will go up against big league hitters dressed in a Braves uniform, one team the Mets hope will take notice that the future is coming full circle very soon.

That future, hopefully by 2015, can and should include Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler and a seasoned Syndergaard in the starting rotation. What a potent rotation it can be.

But it first starts today at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, which will be watched closely and even though he may only pitch one or two innings, each pitch will be analyzed and I can guarantee that every single Mets fans will be paying attention. It has to be one of the most exciting starts in Mets history. I definitely will be tuned in.

Yesterday in Jupiter, while the Mets faced off against the Cardinals, the Syndergaard family, including “Thor” himself sat in the stands and enjoyed quality time before the big event today. Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, shares the families reaction to the impending start, “Exhilarating.”

The right hander who already has pitched in his future home, when he played in the Futures Game during the All Star Game weekend at Citi Field last summer, will be hoping to make his mark and show all of baseball just what all the fuss is about.

Let the Noah Syndergaard era begin, how exciting!
