Stadium Journey is an awesome website that has correspondents around the country and globe visiting and publishing reviews of sport stadiums. Not only do they have all the information a fan could possibly want on a stadium on their website, but they also have a monthly publication, called Stadium Journey Magazine.
Paul Swaney, the President and Co-Founder of Stadium Journey, is a wonderful man that has seen more than 1,600 stadium reviews be done in over 30 different countries under his watch. He recently contacted us to share about a new review that was done at Historic Grayson Stadium, home of the Savannah Sand Gnats.
The review was done by Andy Mantsch, and it can be seen in it’s entirety right here.
The reviews are based on a five-star rating, and the overall score is based on seven different areas: food and beverage, atmosphere, neighborhood, fans, access, return on investment, and extras. Unfortunately, Andy’s ratings only netted Grayson Stadium an overall score of 2.6.
From what I could see in his review, it sounds like Grayson could use a little bit of TLC. Built in 1926, it’s one of the oldest ballparks in the country, but it shows it’s age in some areas. Andy praised the right field bar area, as well as the picnic area in left field, and the best spot to sit down and watch a game is right behind home plate. Outside of that, it looks like parts of the stadium have been neglected, and there aren’t many comfortable spots to watch the Gnats play.
Since it’s a minor league venue, the pricing is very reasonable, as food and beverages weren’t priced higher than $7. However, he did mention that the staff isn’t the friendliest around, which is surprising to me. One would hope that with a South Atlantic League Championship on the verge of being clinched by the home team tonight, the staff is in good spirits and makes it a pleasant experience for the fans in attendance.
I haven’t had the pleasure of visiting Grayson Stadium yet, so this review is all I have to go off of to find out what kind of ballpark this place is. Have any of you been to Grayson Stadium lately? What is it like? Was your experience enjoyable, or different than the one Andy had on the night he caught a game? Let us know in the comments section below.
A big thanks to Andy for putting this review together, and a thank you to Paul for sending it our way.
