Aderlin Rodriguez will join St. Lucie teammates Noah Syndergaard, Dustin Lawley, and T.J. Rivera on this year’s FSL All-Star team. The game will take place in Dunedin on June 15th.
Ad-Rod has struggled to a .182/.250/.182 start in June, but it was his big month of May that earned him his All-Star selection. He hit .343/.372/.581 last month, collecting six home runs and 29 RBIs. Those totals account for most of his season statistics, as Rodriguez is hitting .255/.287/.430 in 2013, with nine home runs and 39 RBIs.
Most of his struggles this season have come against right-handed pitchers, and that’s unfortunate because he’s been facing them more than anyone else. In 51 at-bats against southpaws, Rodriguez is slugging a healthy .569. However, in 184 at-bats against right-handers, he’s slugging a not-so-healthy .391.
After adjusting well to life with the Sand Gnats last season (his third year in low-A), Rodriguez finally earned a promotion in the middle of 2012 to St. Lucie, and is now dealing with his first full season in Advanced-A. At the age of 21, there is still plenty of time for Ad-Rod to develop, become more consistent at the plate, and cut down on those strikeouts. What he did in May is just a glimpse of the potential he possesses.
Congratulations to Aderlin for being added to this week’s All-Star game! It’s always a humbling honor.
