Last night the Salt River Rafters lost to the Peoria Javelinas 6-5 in Arizona Fall League action, the game was televised on MLB Network and MLB.tv.

L.J. Mazzilli was the only Met prospect to play in the game going 0 for 4 with a run batted in. He batted ninth and was the designated hitter for the Rafters. The 25-year old infielder is now just 2 for 23 with three walks in seven games.

Dominic Smith has been out with a strained oblique since Monday but was one of the players that joined the booth during the game and here are some of the quotes from the interview:

  • Trying to rest a couple of injuries at the moment but is excited to get back out on the field.
  • Mets told me not to focus on hitting homeruns, just try to hit the ball hard. Said it was more important to put a good swing on the ball and use the whole field right now.
  • Said he texts former teammate Michael Conforto frequently and did so throughout the World Series run.
  • Said that even if he doesn’t get to play again in the AFL that he would rather stay with the team and learn more from the other players.

Smith was hitting .385/.519/.564 with a homerun, four doubles, five RBI, and 12 walks before the injury bug hit him.
