The Peoria Javelinas lost in walk-off fashion in a shortened seven-inning game on Thursday afternoon, falling 7-6 to the Salt River Rafters. Box Score
Two Mets hitting prospects featured in the starting lineup, but no pitchers made an appearance.
- 2B Kevin Kendall: 1-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI, BB, SO
- RF Stanley Consuegra: 1-for-4, 2B, SO
Kendall and Consuegra each hit a double, accounting for two of the Javelinas’ four extra-base hits in the game. Kendall is hitting .310 with an .892 OPS through six games for the Javelinas, while Consuegra has an .889 OPS in limited action.
The Javelinas got off to a fast start courtesy of Kendall, who drove in two runs with a double in the second inning to put his team up 2-0. Kendall, a seventh-round pick in the 2021 draft, missed most of the 2022 season with an injury and played in just three games for St. Lucie this year, but he is making the most of his opportunity at regular playing time with the Javelinas.
David Fry came through with big hits in back-to-back innings, driving in a run with an RBI single in the fourth before clearing the bases with a three-run double in the fifth to extend the lead to 6-0. Combined with a solid start from Hunter Stanley, the Javelinas looked to be in a comfortable spot.
However, the Rafters mounted a furious rally, starting with two runs in the bottom of the fifth off reliever Alek Jacob. They scored three more in the sixth, and they eventually completed the comeback with a walk-off two-run double from Braxton Fulford in the seventh. Javelinas reliever Amos Willingham was credited with his second blown save and his first loss.
The Javelinas are now 6-4 on the season and losers of two straight. They will get the chance to get back in the win column when they match up against the Glendale Desert Dogs on Friday afternoon at 3:35 p.m. ET.
