There are many ways to describe just how good Alex Ramirez has been to start the 2022 season with the St. Lucie Mets. Perhaps, the best way is to point out Ramirez was 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple leading to his batting average dropping to .560.

Obviously, this was from from a down game for Ramirez. In fact, this was another game where he showed off why he is such a well regarded prospect. Tonight, he showcased his speed.

In the fifth, Ramirez not only hit the ball the other way; he did it with authority. With his speed, he was able to triple without so much as a throw to third. This type of speed isn’t a surprise. As noted by Baseball America, Ramirez runs a 6.34 in the 60 yard dash.

We would see Ramirez flash that speed again later in the game to leg out an infield single to second. These were two at-bats where Ramirez’s speed was on full display, and it was impressive to watch

After these two hits, Ramirez is now hitting .560/.607/.840 with three doubles, two triples, and four RBI.

He has collected at least one hit in all six games of the season. In fact, five of his six games this season were multi-hit games. He’s collected an extra-base hit in four consecutive games.

He’s the Florida State League leader in batting average, hits, and triples. He’s also in the top ten in runs, doubles, OBP, SLG, and OPS. Remember, this is still a 19-year-old teenager who is 2.1 years younger than league average.

Looking at the whole picture, this is a special prospect. That was evident in Keith Law of The Athletic naming him the 100th best prospect in the game. It was also reflected in MMN rating him as the Mets seventh best prospect.

This is a player with speed who hits the ball over 100 MPH. He’s a terrific fielder. He’s off to a fast start with St. Lucie. Who knows where else that speed will take him this season?
