MMN’s own Michael Mayer reports Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty, and Ronny Mauricio will be assigned to the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies to begin the 2022 season. These are MMN‘s top three Mets prospects making Binghamton the affiliate to watch this season.

Alvarez, 20, has been the talk of Mets camp. He arrived declaring he wants to make the majors this season. He hit a monster homer, and he’s had Buck Showalter gushing about his potential and energy.

Alvarez is the consensus top prospect in the Mets system. He’s also appeared on every Top 100 ranking mostly being rated as a top 10 prospect.

Last season, Alvarez played 99 games between St. Lucie and Brooklyn. He hit .272/.388/.554 with 18 doubles, a triple, 24 homers, and 70 RBI.

Baty and Mauricio both finished their 2021 seasons in Binghamton after starting their seasons with High-A Brooklyn.

Baty, 22, hit .272/.364/.424 with eight doubles, five homers, and 22 RBI in 40 games for Binghamton. Overall, he hit ..282/.382/.473 with 22 doubles, one triple, 12 homers, and 56 RBI.

Last season, Baty began playing some left field to increase his versatility. He played even more with Binghamton partially due to Mark Vientos also being on the roster. With Vientos in Triple-A, Baty will predominantly play third with continued outfield reps.

Mauricio, 20, played just eight games for Binghamton last season, and he had a string stretch where he hit .323/.364/.452. Overall, Mauricio hit ..248/.296/.449 with 15 doubles, five triples, 20 homers, and 64 RBI.

How long each of these players will stay in Double-A is dependent on a number of factors. Ultimately, while the other two haven’t been as vocal as Alvarez, they all assuredly have Major League aspirations, and with a big year, they could be there sooner than they think.
