Amed Rosario

Mets top shortstop prospect Amed Rosario was recently called up to play on the Savannah roster after tearing it up against competition during extended Spring Training, according to Adam Rubin.

Rubin adds that it is a planned small stop for the extremely talented shortstop, and he will be starting the 2014 season in Brooklyn on June 13th. But for now, he will back up Gavin Cecchini in Savannah, as well as play other positions, likely the outfield, due to Champ Stuart going to the DL. Stuart replaced Jared King, who also went to the DL the week before.

Rosario was signed in 2012 to a club-record 1.75 million dollar contract as a 16 year old. He has a boatload of talent, possibly becoming an incredible 5-tool shortstop with a large potential especially for power. He was named by Baseball America as the top prospect of the Appalachian league as well as #7 in the organization and as well as the Mets #6 prospect on MLB.com. Despite hitting .241 in Kingsport last year, it has been assumed that he is headed for Brooklyn after impressing the Mets Organization during extended spring training.

More to come on Rosario’s progress.
