Andres Gimenez Launches Grand Slam in Pro Debut

Today was Opening Day in the Dominican Summer League and both of the Mets teams played with numerous players making their professional debuts. The best debut came from shortstop Andres Gimenez who signed with the Mets on July 2nd for a $1.2 million signing bonus who hit a grand slam.

DSL Mets 2 (1-0) 11, DSL Rays 2 (0-1) 0

Eight different Mets had a hit on the day while seven plays each scored at least one run in the blowout win.

  • Andres Gimenez SS: 1 for 4, BB, HR, 5 RBI, 3 R
  • Jorge Martinez C: 2 for 5, R
  • Wilmer Reyes 2B: 2 for 4, R, 2 RBI, HBP
  • Edinson Valdez RF: 1 for 3, RBI
  • Hanser Ortiz 1B: 1 for 3, RBI, R
  • Enmanuel De Oleo DH: 1 for 4, RBI
  • David Lozano 2B: 0 for 2, RBI
  • Shervyen Newton: 0 for 1

Martinez and Lozano were both signed out of Colombia during the 2015 IFA signing period.

Zabaleta, 20, only pitched two innings in the 2015 season for the DSL Mets.

DSL Mets 1 (1-0) 4, DSL Cubs (0-1) 2

The Mets scored three runs in the seventh inning to break up a 1-1 tie. Gregory Guerrero made his pro debut after signing to a $1.5 million signing bonus.

Fermin, 18, played in 47 games last season with 31 at second, 16 at shortstop and two at first base.
