Arizona Fall League (AFL)
Salt River Rafters (8-4) 4, Scottsdale Scorpions (6-6) 2 Box Score
- SS Andres Gimenez: 1-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI(13), 2 K | .333 AVG/.875 OPS
- C Ali Sanchez: 1-for-4, R, 2 K | .214 AVG/.527 OPS
After a strong first two weeks in the Arizona Fall League, manager Cesar Martin decided to move Gimenez up in the order to the two hole in the lineup. He responded with a clutch seventh inning, two-out double down the left field line to drive in runners from first and second base helping the Scorpions tie up the game at 2-2. The double would be the only hit with runners in scoring position as the Scorpions were 1-for-7 in those situations. Unfortunately, it would not be enough as the Scorpions bullpen gave those two runs right back in the bottom half of the inning.
With his two RBIs today, Gimenez is now in sole possession of second in the Arizona Fall League with 13 runs batted in. He trails only Yankees first base prospect Brandon Wagner (16 RBI) who hit two grand slams last week for the Surprise Saguaros.
#Mets No. 3 prospect Andres Gimenez knocked in a pair of runs during today’s @MLBAZfallleague action. The Venezuelan shortstop is batting .333 through his first 8 AFL contests.
