So far this season, the development and performance of Anthony Kay has been the story of the Mets minor league system. With him getting better control of his pitches which now have more movement since when he was drafted, Kay has been laying waste to the Eastern League.

Through 11 starts for Binghamton, he is 6-3 with a 1.62 ERA, 0.918 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9, and a 9.0 K/9. He is second int the Eastern League in wins and ERA, third in starts, 10th in innings, eighth in strikeouts, and fifth in WHIP. All in all, he is as good as any pitcher as there is in the Eastern League. And now, according to Baseball America, Kay is one of the best pitching prospects in the game.

In their June update of their Top 100 prospect rankings, Kay is now ranked the 91st best prospect in the game. Baseball America gives high 60 ratings to his fastball and change-up while giving him a 50 overall ranking. Overall, Baseball America noted:

In his second full season, Kay has continued to show why the Mets spent their first-round pick on him in 2016. He’s carved hitters with a three-pitch mix and excellent command of his repertoire. His changeup and fastball each project as plus, and his slider should be at least an average offering.

Kay joins Andres Gimenez (33) and Ronny Mauricio (80) as Mets prospects on the Top 100. When you consider Pete Alonso began the season on the rankings, the Mets have now had four of their prospects ranked on the Top 100 this season. With the draft the Mets just had along with the seasons some of the Mets other prospects have had, there may be more to join this list.

Another interesting note here is Kay being ranked by Baseball America as a top 100 draft pick, this means every single first round pick made during Sandy Alderson’s tenure as the Mets General Manager has made a top 100 prospect ranking for a major outlet. That speaks to the high end talent which has been in the Mets organizations since 2011, and it gives Mets fans hope for the future.
