Asdrubal Cabrera, Alejandro De Aza Hitless In Winter League Debut

Asdrubal Cabrera made his Venezuelan Winter League debut last night going 0 for 3 for the Leones del Caracas as the designated hitter. The Caracas only have two regular season games left before the playoffs start.

The other Mets recent free agent signing Alejandro De Aza made his debut last night for the Toros del Este in the Dominican League going 0 for 3 with a walk. The Toros beat the Estrellas de Oriente 3-2 in game one of their 18-game round robin playoff schedule.

Rest of Mets winter ball action last night:

  • Xorge Carrillo – 0 for 3, strikeout (.278/.330/.373 in 51 games for Aguilas de Mexicali).
  • Johnny Monell – 1 for 2, walk, run scored, two RBI (.270/.396/.426 with 22 walks in 32 games for Criollos de Caguas).
  • T.J. Rivera – 0 for 4 (.306/.379/.459 with three homeruns in 24 games for Indios de Mayaguez).
  • Joel Huertas – One scoreless inning, hit, strikeout (4.11 ERA, 1.57 WHIP in 15.1 innings for Cangrejeros de Santurce).
  • Chase Huchingson – 1.1 innings, two hits, ER, two strikeouts (6.75 ERA in 3.2 innings for Tigres del Licey).

Wuilmer Becerra went 1 for 3 last night for the Tigres de Aragua while playing right field and batting sixth. He extended his hitting streak to five games and has seven RBI over his last ten games. Overall he is hitting .359/.364/.469 with two homeruns in 64 at bats.
