It was all about booming bats in Binghamton Wednesday night as the B-Mets amassed 11 runs and 14 hits to crush New Britain, 11-4. The victory left Binghamton narrowly in front of Trenton in the Eastern League’s Eastern Division pennant race. Both teams have 57 wins with the B-Mets holding one fewer loss than the Thunder.

Binghamton exploded scoring 8 runs in the home second off New Britain’s Harrison Musgrave. Joe Benson started the onslaught with a one out single to centerfield. A Musgrave wild pitch coupled by an infield error on the throw to second allowed Benson to advance to third. After L.J. Mazzilli drew a base-on-balls, Jonathan Galvez lined a single to left field plating Benson with the first run of the game. The Galvez single was the fifth consecutive hit for the B-Met left-fielder.

An outfield error by the Fischer Cat right-fielder loaded the bases with B-Mets. Binghamton pitcher Robert Gsellman grounded out for the second out of the inning but plated Mazilli.

A two run Gavin Cecchini single put the B-Mets ahead, 4-0. Cecchini would go 4-for-5 on the evening with a double, triple, and 3 RBI’s. Cecchini is now hitting .309 on the year.

Travis d’Arnuad kept the rally alive doubling to left field scoring Cecchini. Josh Rodriguez singled setting the table for a Brock Peterson home run pushing the B-Mets lead to 8-0.

Gsellman coasted early in the outing retiring the first 10 batters he faced. The perfect game was erased when Gavin Cecchini committed an error at shortstop. Singles by Mike Tauchman, Will Swanner and Zach Osborne later in the fourth inning plated two New Britain runs. Gsellman pitched 5 innings allowing 4 hits, walking 1 and striking out 3 in earning his fifth victory.

Josh Rodriquez laced three hits including a solo home run for Binghamton. Petersen added a second home run, a solo shot in the fourth.

After Matt Koch yielded a pair of runs in the first of his two innings of work,
Adam Kolarek and Akeel Morris pitched scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth with Morris fanning two of the three Fischer Cats he faced.
