The Binghamton Mets have announced that their ace Robert Gsellman has been placed on the 7-day disabled list. According to Lynn Worthy of Press Connects it’s believed to be a minor groin strain. The early indication is that he will miss only one start.

Gsellman, our #9 prospect, has been great to start the year going 1-2 with a 2.21 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in seven starts that spans 40.2 innings. He has walked 12 compared to 33 strikeouts which gives him 7.30 K/9, a significant increase from last year’s 4.78 mark in Binghamton.

He has added a slider to his arsenal and has shown great confidence in the new pitch, throwing it early and often in his last couple of starts. He has also seen a boost in velocity this season, reportedly hitting 98 MPH in his first start while hitting 95 multiple times in another. That is a good sign for someone who sat in the 90-93 range in 2015.

In the corresponding roster move, fellow start Rainy Lara was activated from the disabled list. He is 2-3 with 3.38 ERA and 1.19 WHIP this year in five starts for the B-Mets.

Here is a recent article writer John Bernhardt did about the progression of Gsellman this year over at MMO.
