Baseball America has released their annual preseason MLB Organization Talent Rankings. This year, a once much maligned New York Mets farm system was ranked as the 16th best in the majors.

As Baseball America notes, their rankings both look at the entire organization and emphasizing “the top prospects who drive the most value for their clubs.” With Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty, and Ronny Mauricio, the Mets have those top prospects driving their much improved ranking.

The Mets ranking has jumped four spots from the previous year, and they have had a major jump since they were rated as the sixth worst system in 2020. Overall, on the system, Baseball America said:

The Mets have a strong group of position prospects at the top of their system with Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty, Ronny Mauricio and Mark Vientos. The Mets don’t have as much pitching that could help this year at the major league level, but they have a number of lower level arms that intrigue, mostly acquired internationally or in the 2021 draft.

Overall, the Mets have the top farm system in the National League East. The Miami Marlins are behind the Mets at 20 with the Atlanta Braves (22nd), Philadelphia Phillies (23rg), and Washington Nationals (26th) rating near the bottom of all systems.

What’s exciting for Mets fans is this farm system should take a huge jump next year. In addition to the continued development of the aforementioned prospects, Matt Allan will be returning from Tommy John, and the organization will have two of the top 14 draft picks as well as six picks in the top 100.

More exciting that that is seeing how close this young talent is to making their MLB debut. Before we know it, we may see these prospects as well as some others not oft discussed in Queens over the next few years.
