Baseball America Rates Jordan Humphreys As Helium

In their Weekly Hot Sheet, Baseball America listed Mets right-handed pitching prospect Jordan Humphreys just outside of their Top 20 for the week ending June 1st.  Quite apropos, Baseball America dubbed him as “helium.”  This is presumably because he is both hot and a fast riser.

Over the past week, Humphreys made just one start, and it was a dominant effort just like the rest. In his May 30th win against the August GreenJackets, Humphreys pitches six innings allowing just two hits and an unearned run while walking none and striking out eight.

In all of Humphrey’ nine starts, he has allowed two earned runs or less, and he has struck out at least eight in six of those nine starts.  He has shown remarkable control walking two or less in every single start, and walking no one in four of his nine starts.

This is a major reason why Humphreys leads the entire minor leagues with an astounding 0.66 WHIP.  In fact, Humphreys’ name is scattered atop the Sally League’s leader board.  He leads the league in wins (8), ERA (1.40), complete games (2), and shut outs (1).  Overall, Humphreys is having a dominating and breakout season for the Columbia Fireflies. Certainly, this is not the last time we will see his name in connection to any weekly awards.
